How To Find A Club at UBC!

So! We’re almost a full month into the semester, and you’re walking around campus seeing cool posters for clubs, events, and all sorts of other happenings on campus… but you always miss events, your friends are busy all the time with fun extracurriculars, or you simply have no idea what to do on campus other than study and blow your cash at Blue Chip (which is, in all honesty, money well spend). The solution?

JOIN A CLUB!

But how? And when? And where?? Well, let me give you a few tips on finding a club that’s right for you.

1. Go to the Clubs Fair

(I mean, it’s in the name) The most surefire way to get a good look at the many different clubs that exist at UBC is by going to the Clubs Fair coming up next week, from September 27th to the 29th! You’ll see a showcase of great clubs and events, and get to bombard current members with questions.

2. Try AMS CampusBase

UBC’s Alma Mater Society has lists with all registered clubs as well as new events for you to check out!

3. Consider your passions and ask around

Your friends, TAs, and even professors can often come up with recommendations for groups that might interest you!

4. Keep an eye out for posters around campus

Lots of clubs advertise their upcoming events by sticking up flyers and posters around campus on (and inside) buildings; just walk into any of the Buchanan wings and you’ll find the corkboards plastered with information about clubs.

5. Find a student association for your major

If you have a specialization that you have declared OR intend to major in, there is very likely a group for it! For example, the Political Science Students’ Association serves as a hub for panels, discussions, and mixers for current and prospective Political Science majors. If you have a major in mind, you’ll have a club in mind too.

Conclusion

At the end of the day, it comes down to putting yourself out there and taking the leap to meet new people; which, of course, is not an easy feat. At all. But the clubs here at UBC are filled with kind and passionate people, who are more than excited to bring you in as part of their community.

With that being said, do you yourself a favour and come by the UBC Players stand at next week’s Clubs Fair. We love bringing new people into our community, and we’re more than happy to answer any and every question you have for us. Plus, if you decide to join, you’ll have the opportunity to early access tickets for our shows, as well as information about joining our production team, auditioning for acting roles, and joining our writing workshops!

We’ll see you at the Clubs Fair!!
